As a little girl, I used to play school and was so serious about it that I even bought grade book for my imaginary classrooms! However, I didn't begin my career as a teacher. I started out as a music therapist, and worked in mental health for several years. I transitioned into school counseling for a few years, and then decided to stay at home with my children while they were small. I discovered a new passion while serving as "room mom" - helping children learn to read. I decided to further my education and returned to work as a teacher instead of a counselor when my youngest child entered kindergarten. My childhood dream of becoming a teacher was finally realized.
